Yesterday (December 09) was a day of profound emotion and deep purpose for us. On the occasion of Amma’s birthday, we officially launched the Susitha Foundation. There was no better way to honor her special day and mark the beginning of this journey than by visiting Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama to carry out our inaugural initiative.
Apeksha Hospital acts as a crucial lifeline for thousands of patients across Sri Lanka. However, the demand for specialized treatments often places a heavy strain on resources. We specifically focused this donation on a critical chemotherapy drug that is in high demand.
The Reality of the Need The hospital currently requires approximately 600 vials of this specific drug per month. With a retail value of LKR 6,500 per vial, the cost is overwhelming for many. For low-income families already struggling to make ends meet, funding this essential medication is an almost impossible burden. Recognizing this urgent gap, the Susitha Foundation mobilized to procure and deliver a stock of these critical medications.
A Family Pledge As this was our inaugural project, this donation was entirely family-funded to kickstart the foundation's mission. We wanted our first step to be a direct contribution from our hearts to the patients, ensuring that financial constraints do not delay their life-saving treatments.
Walking through the wards, we were reminded that a donation is more than just a transaction of goods. It is a symbol of hope. It is a message to every patient and their family that they are not fighting alone—that there is a community outside those walls that cares deeply for their well-being.
Join Us in Spreading Hope This initiative is just the beginning of what the Susitha Foundation stands for. We believe that compassion must be active, not passive.
While this first step was taken by our family, the need remains great. If you are willing to contribute to this cause in the future, please reach out to us. You can also contact the Apeksha Hospital Drug Donation Unit directly at +94 77 746 8503.
Together, we can continue to spread hope and healing where it is needed most.
